and reigniting the engines of economic growth.
* z! b$ {0 J+ b1 O6 Y! a4 ~3 i" s" j, MAround the world, leaders are getting ready now, drawing up massive
' X0 {" k2 n1 z* g+ G" ?4 z- Heconomic stimulus packages. Some of these plans will provide short-term boosts,
others will shape infrastructure for decades to come. We believe that by making
. w& U, |! L5 dclean energy an integral part of their plans, governments can deliver jobs and
economic growth while also ensuring that their energy systems are modernised,
more resilient and less polluting.
' y0 {) x8 k% `9 w# |/ s7 mGlobal confinement has halted travel and transport, causing a severe shock
to energy systems. As a result, it is likely that global carbon dioxide emissions
& H/ T6 J6 a( {7 Uwill decline this year. But that will not be anything to celebrate. What matters is
putting emissions into structural decline. For that, we will need clean energy to
5 U, J  w. w3 n4 S) F+ L' Q) rplay a central role in recovery efforts. This is an inter-generational opportunity,
where smart economic planning can enable us to put the world on track to meet
1 X+ }; d# j+ |; y7 z0 Gour climate commitments, including the Paris Agreement. We need to make the
! D! j3 C& R4 Y) I( }$ Skey pillars of energy transitions - such as energy efficiency, renewables and
battery storage - top priorities for creating jobs, improving critical infrastructure
and driving innovation.
