further forwards, the world faces an enormous task getting people back to work

" b- g. Q+ X" R  p" i5 OAround the world, leaders are getting ready now, drawing up massive
' y5 R0 f; u3 T- g8 ]) oeconomic stimulus packages. Some of these plans will provide short-term boosts,
others will shape infrastructure for decades to come. We believe that by making
" f1 n$ \. {6 ?: }1 n: @8 ]+ Dclean energy an integral part of their plans, governments can deliver jobs and
% T, Y1 N& |# @9 e3 Feconomic growth while also ensuring that their energy systems are modernised,
more resilient and less polluting.
& _6 c' S" i2 ?2 n7 j  p  l* W7 u6 XGlobal confinement has halted travel and transport, causing a severe shock
to energy systems. As a result, it is likely that global carbon dioxide emissions
* g- E. R( P; y( L. lwill decline this year. But that will not be anything to celebrate. What matters is
putting emissions into structural decline. For that, we will need clean energy to
play a central role in recovery efforts. This is an inter-generational opportunity,
where smart economic planning can enable us to put the world on track to meet
: a4 k: E$ t8 W% i3 aour climate commitments, including the Paris Agreement. We need to make the
key pillars of energy transitions - such as energy efficiency, renewables and
battery storage - top priorities for creating jobs, improving critical infrastructure
and driving innovation.
