This monograph aims at giving an extensive treatment of modeling issues,
+ f8 p3 L" X% I) d  n5 C: d) n# ?design methodologies and implementation aspects, arising when the adaptive3 N2 x( P2 O- _/ P, H0 k) z8 q
control theory is applied to nodal voltage control in power systems.
$ j" A; ^) m8 B6 \The monograph is structured into six chapters and an appendix. The first
& `1 `: g6 P2 g2 @' H2 Kthree chapters introduce the reader to the voltage control problem and the
! g* M0 J1 j' m: f/ }subsequent three chapters illustrate different design methodologies. In particular
( K# s& m) T) n3 Q: C0 i5 ?  ]the first chapter describes the power system control problem and the8 ]) e1 F+ ^( l- K, K# e. m" e
voltage control structures adopted in transmission, distribution and industrial6 ^5 o/ w3 E  x3 Q5 O- [( Y
electrical systems. The second chapter presents power system models that can
2 ]! Y( X9 x% f" P9 J  ^be usefully employed in voltage control design. The third chapter studies the* T- q0 W4 g) C- E7 @' @
properties of the Kalman filter used in the estimation of voltage and current
1 p" ~4 Z* h  \( a( C0 `- r. a4 y! [phasors. The subsequent two chapters deal with the discrete-time design of,
1 A6 U5 U$ u0 b. c, o: c9 orespectively, self-tuning and model-reference adaptive voltage controllers. The& t6 K7 u, W4 M1 Z" `; A
sixth chapter illustrates an adaptive design that is quite different from those  v5 @) o2 t0 _# _8 q  U* N
presented in the two previous chapters, being based on an adaptive mechanism
+ B  W! I) |' _4 ]% `  a: jcompensating the power system model nonlinearities. Finally, the appendix
2 @2 j9 b# H5 @& ^' @describes the high-voltage transmission system and industrial network used. f( |, ?& w- w' K6 ~9 j
in the simulations reported in the monograph.2 n0 M8 _9 l9 R" S9 o7 ~. a
