In the Grid Code:
(i) a table of contents, a Preface, a Revision section, headings, and the Appendix to this

construing the Grid Code;
) ~6 s9 t" m- ^: e- i+ ]( \1 M2 T(ii) unless the context otherwise requires, all references to a particular paragraph, suBPAragraph,
2 a- a& E, a  j( a+ {" vAppendix or Schedule shall be a reference to that paragraph, subparagraph
Appendix or Schedule in or to that part of the Grid Code in which the
reference is made;
(iii) unless the context otherwise requires, the singular shall include the plural and vice

0 ?0 }! j. \! O* vpersons shall include any individual, body corporate, corporation, joint venture, trust,
unincorporated association, organisation, firm or partnership and any other entity, in
each case whether or not having a separate legal personality;
% V' G2 v% e6 Q2 R. p" \' g8 H(iv) references to the words "include" or "including" are to be construed without limitation
to the generality of the preceding words;
(v) unless there is something in the subject matter or the context which is inconsistent
therewith, any reference to an Act of Parliament or any Section of or Schedule to, or
; i9 I# L' r( j  g5 pother provision of an Act of Parliament shall be construed at the particular time, as
including a reference to any modification, extension or re-enactment thereof then in
force and to all instruments, orders and regulations then in force and made under or
. m. G, p/ u+ T4 `" I: y: gderiving validity from the relevant Act of Parliament;
(vi) where the Glossary and Definitions refers to any word or term which is more
; k' L3 T- t9 u* v& Eparticularly defined in a part of the Grid Code, the definition in that part of the Grid
Code will prevail (unless otherwise stated) over the definition in the Glossary &
Definitions in the event of any inconsistency;
(vii) a cross-reference to another document or part of the Grid Code shall not of itself
impose any additional or further or co-existent obligation or confer any additional or
% s) y0 ?+ Z+ x, Gfurther or co-existent right in the part of the text where such cross-reference is
contained;
(viii) nothing in the Grid Code is intended to or shall derogate from NGET's statutory or
: h5 K7 g8 U5 s" I0 W$ s  ^licence obligations;
7 l  Y) u% Z# p(ix) a "holding company" means, in relation to any person, a holding company of such
+ M% Y0 {+ T# G# w3 @7 f2 xperson within the meaning of section 736, 736A and 736B of the Companies Act
1985 as substituted by section 144 of the Companies Act 1989 and, if that latter
section is not in force at the Transfer Date, as if such latter section were in force at
such date;
/ F" d- n# F9 R! t5 T' W4 c6 O' ~(x) a "subsidiary" means, in relation to any person, a subsidiary of such person within the
meaning of section 736, 736A and 736B of the Companies Act 1985 as substituted
9 M3 @3 Z' E$ oby section 144 of the Companies Act 1989 and, if that latter section is not in force at
2 B( n. b1 R# x$ h, p/ Z' q' `( rthe Transfer Date, as if such latter section were in force at such date;

(xii) (a) Save where (b) below applies, where there is a reference to an item of data
being expressed in a whole number of MW, fractions of a MW below 0.5 shall
be rounded down to the nearest whole MW and fractions of a MW of 0.5 and
