This monograph aims at giving an extensive treatment of modeling issues,
! w) z. Y6 R2 K5 J5 zdesign methodologies and implementation aspects, arising when the adaptive
. x% b6 I, t8 `: Bcontrol theory is applied to nodal voltage control in power systems.
5 [" Q7 C5 H! o2 PThe monograph is structured into six chapters and an appendix. The first
. c+ h( C: I) U' H* q  Mthree chapters introduce the reader to the voltage control problem and the
subsequent three chapters illustrate different design methodologies. In particular
the first chapter describes the power system control problem and the
voltage control structures adopted in transmission, distribution and industrial
, h* u0 Z" o; l& Y/ f+ x# P% ?electrical systems. The second chapter presents power system models that can
be usefully employed in voltage control design. The third chapter studies the
properties of the Kalman filter used in the estimation of voltage and current
0 x1 l/ p+ D" U& C% Z; kphasors. The subsequent two chapters deal with the discrete-time design of,
# }  y: j) {# |- q+ ]respectively, self-tuning and model-reference adaptive voltage controllers. The
" X2 F. [. R- osixth chapter illustrates an adaptive design that is quite different from those
+ F( k$ a7 t2 C6 upresented in the two previous chapters, being based on an adaptive mechanism
compensating the power system model nonlinearities. Finally, the appendix
$ q4 T* U& W! m( Jdescribes the high-voltage transmission system and industrial network used
, T) `, z: L) n, k. k. Lin the simulations reported in the monograph.
