Around the world, leaders are getting ready now, drawing up massive
) p" o* ], g% H$ s: beconomic stimulus packages. Some of these plans will provide short-term boosts,
others will shape infrastructure for decades to come. We believe that by making
* x! m& I: s9 n' Pclean energy an integral part of their plans, governments can deliver jobs and
economic growth while also ensuring that their energy systems are modernised,
4 w9 w2 j. S# H$ H7 ?more resilient and less polluting.
: F' g4 _/ q" e# m) ~1 MGlobal confinement has halted travel and transport, causing a severe shock
! l8 j" E% V6 V& K. N& Rto energy systems. As a result, it is likely that global carbon dioxide emissions
will decline this year. But that will not be anything to celebrate. What matters is
9 r0 A: [* a5 X" Y: g0 l' O9 y; Cputting emissions into structural decline. For that, we will need clean energy to
; W- D7 Y  O: \5 @3 l! r' wplay a central role in recovery efforts. This is an inter-generational opportunity,
# S. M+ T" H, `, V' l2 s, h/ ]where smart economic planning can enable us to put the world on track to meet
% }+ C5 Z2 O( y: e2 {! [. hour climate commitments, including the Paris Agreement. We need to make the
key pillars of energy transitions - such as energy efficiency, renewables and
battery storage - top priorities for creating jobs, improving critical infrastructure
and driving innovation.
