Faculty of information Technology, Mathematics and Electrical Engineering,
Department of Electric Power Engineering.
A PhD or Post Doc Fellowship at the Department of Electric Power Engineering within
Design and Control of Energy Conversion Systems for the Integration of Offshore
Renewable Energy Sources into the Electric Grid - IME-021-2009.
At the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Department
of Electric Power Engineering, there is one vacant position as a research fellow (PhD or Post
Doc position) within “Design and Control of Energy Conversion Systems for the Integration
of Offshore Renewable Energy Sources into the Electric Grid”.
Description of the PhD/Post Doc task:
Large scale integration of wind and/or wave farms will require innovative integrated
approaches for the design of the energy conversion system, the layout of the farm itself, the
distribution system of the farm, and for the transmission of power to the distant shore.
Conventional generation and power electronic conversion systems will be revised and adapted
to the harsh conditions and stricter requirements of offshore installations. A system oriented
approach for the integration of this power will be introduced, taking into account the most
severe contingencies to be encountered with the goal of fulfilling the regulations regarding
grid integration and quality of delivered power.
NTNU’s PhD-rules require a master degree or equivalent with at least 5 years of studies and
an average grade of A or B within a scale of A-E for passing grades (A best). Candidates from
universities outside Norway are kindly requested to send a Diploma Supplement or a similar
document, which describes in detail the study and grade system and the rights for further
studies associated with the obtained degree:

For the Post Doc research fellowship:
The applicant for the position should have a good background in power electronics and power
systems. The post.doc candidate should have a doctoral degree from a recognized university.
The appointment is made for up to 2 years.
This position is remunerated according to wage levels 57 – 76 on Norwegian State salary
scale, with gross salary from NOK 435 500 to NOK 625 900 a year, of which 2 % is deducted

The successful applicant must agree to the conditions laid down for public employees.
For the PhD research fellowship:
Award holders at NTNU are normally appointed for 4 years with 25% of the time spent on
specified work. The objective of the grant is to obtain a PhD degree, hence the successful
applicant must be enrolled as a PhD candidate at NTNU.
