The EMT type software can be used to simulate the power quality issue. The bottom line is the trade off between the time step of the software and the highest frequency of problem. Basically it is determined by Shannon theorem. However, it is an accepted rule that 6 samples are need for each cycle of the highest frequency.

Therefore if the time step is 50 Hz, it can cover 0-3kHz response, which mean up to 50th harmonics is fine.

I think you meant time step of 50us and system frequnecy of 60Hz?

Up to 50th Harmonic is not necessary, Am I right?
